JOB TITLE Attendance Clerk II
Attendance Clerk II is supervised, evaluated, and directly
responsible to the Principal and/or designee.

BASIC FUNCTION
Under general supervision, to perform responsible clerical tasks in the establishment,
maintenance and processing of computerized student attendance records; coordinate and
participate in the daily operations and activities of an assigned school attendance office; act as a liaison
between students, parents, school staff, and outside agencies regarding student attendance matters;
input and update attendance information; and perform related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Collects daily student attendance information; makes and receives phone calls; obtains, and
reviews excuse notes, and excused absences according to district policies and procedures;
reviews, and distributes absence reports;
● Contacts parents, students, teachers, counselors, and others as needed to follow up on unexcused
absences; refers student attendance issues to appropriate personnel according to established
procedures; assists in identifying and resolving student attendance issues;
● Responds to inquiries from parents, teachers, and others regarding student absenteeism;
● Receives and accommodates visitors to the attendance office and acts as a primary information
source to students, parents, staff, administrators, and outside agencies regarding student
attendance matters; provides information relative to attendance procedures and services; takes
and relays messages;
● Issues class admission slips and permits to leave school;
● Establishes and maintains computerized and manual attendance records, documents, logs, slips,
and related files; generates a variety of computerized lists and reports related to student
attendance data;
● Organizes, prioritizes, and reviews the work of student assistants and/or others assigned to the
attendance office as assigned; trains helpers and monitors their performance;
● Operates a variety of office equipment, including computers, and performs filing, typing,
assembly of attendance-related packets, and other clerical tasks in support of assigned functions;
● Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
● School attendance laws and district policies and procedures related to attendance.
● General clerical office practices and procedures, including operation of common office
equipment and computers.
● Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
● Telephone techniques and etiquette.
● Record-keeping techniques.

● Interact with a diverse range of individuals, including those who may display anger or
frustration, and effectively manage such circumstances.

● Apply methods, procedures, policies, and terminology used in accounting for student attendance.
● Establish and maintain accurate records, files, and logs and prepare accurate summaries and
reports.
● Perform responsible clerical work with efficiency and accuracy.
● Gather and review information for compliance with established policies and procedures.
● Make accurate decisions and use sound judgment within the framework of policies, procedures,
and guidelines.
● Operate standard office equipment including computers and assigned software.
● Read and write at a level sufficient for successful performance of required duties.
● Interpret and apply relevant laws, rules, policies, and other guidelines associated with an
assigned functional area(s).
Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are
essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
● Vision that can be corrected to a level sufficient to successfully read hand-written, typed, and
computer-generated information and data, as well as computer terminal displays.
● Hearing and speech ability are sufficient to enable communication by telephone and in person.
● Manual dexterity is sufficient to use standard office equipment and supplies and to manipulate
both single sheets of paper and large document holders (binders, manuals, etc.).
● Physical ability to sit or otherwise remain stationary at work post for long periods of time.
● Physical ability to reach, bend, and grasp in order to file and retrieve materials.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $31.76 - $38.49 per hour
