Job Description: Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)
Job Overview: As a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) at our pediatric dental practice, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional dental care to young patients. Working closely with our team of dentists, you'll ensure a comfortable and supportive environment during dental procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Dentists During Dental Procedures:
- Prepare treatment rooms and dental equipment for procedures.
- Assist dentists during examinations and treatments, including restorative, preventive, and orthodontic procedures.
- Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, maintaining a clear field, and ensuring patient comfort.
Patient Care and Education:
- Greet and prepare patients for dental treatments, addressing any concerns or anxieties.
- Educate patients and their guardians on proper oral hygiene and post-treatment care.
- Create a child-friendly atmosphere to alleviate dental visit anxieties.
Sterilization and Infection Control:
- Follow strict sterilization and infection control protocols (OSHA, CDC) to maintain a safe environment.
- Clean and sterilize dental instruments and equipment after each use.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area to uphold safety standards.
X-ray and Sealant Application:
- Perform dental X-rays under dentist supervision, ensuring patient comfort and proper positioning.
- Maintain certification for dental X-ray procedures as required.
- Apply dental sealants to children's teeth to prevent decay, promoting oral health.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate effectively with dental team members and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care.
- Communicate with parents or guardians regarding treatment plans, appointments, and follow-up care.
- Participate in team meetings and continuing education to enhance pediatric dentistry skills.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program and current RDA license in California.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Certification in dental X-ray procedures and sealant application.
- Pediatric dental experience preferred.
- Proficiency in dental terminology, procedures, and instruments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with children and families.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical standards.
Working Conditions:
- Standing for extended periods and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Exposure to infectious agents and dental materials, requiring adherence to infection control protocols.
- Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and effective task prioritization.
