About Devil's Canyon Brewing Company:
Founded in 2001, Devil's Canyon Brewing Company is an award-winning, family-owned eventhouse and brewery located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. We host both private and public events in our Tasting Room, Barrel Room, and Beer Garden, and produce and distribute sustainably handcrafted beverages centered on premium ingredients.
Position Overview:
Brewer Tier 2 performs both cellar and brewing responsibilities at Devil’s Canyon. The position facilitates beverage production while maintaining a secure, sanitary, world-class beverage manufacturing facility and operating and maintaining all pertinent equipment from brew haus pumps, to keg washer valves, and canning line sensors.
General Duties:
- Follow safety protocols and best practices.
- Maintain a sanitary production environment.
- Cleaning equipment, tanks and facility daily.
- Loading and unloading of delivery and distribution trucks.
- Certified Forklift operator.
- Assisting Team Members as needed in all brewery operations.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professionalism with our contracts.

Fermentation and Cellar Operations:
- Cleaning tanks, Kegs, equipment, and facility
- Yeast Propagation and Management
- Stocking and receiving goods and supplies
- Assist in Barrel Aging Program
- Packaging: Kegs, Cans, and Bottles
- Sensory Analysis of beer
- Daily Gravity and VDK Sampling
- Communicating tank management and packaging with the Cellar team
- Record Keeping
- Product Filtration via. Plate and frame, Velo, or otherwise
Brewhouse Operations:
- Produce wort per pre-described recipes for both Devil’s Canyon and contract breweries.
- Troubleshoot and problem solve on the fly.
- Keep concise and accurate notes during brew days on the brew sheet, including all adjustments or actions performed.
- Maintain inventory of brewing ingredients (yeast nutrient, brewing salts, acids, etc.) and place orders when necessary.
- Continually strive to improve processes and increase efficiencies in the brewhouse.
- Coordinate spent-grain pickups when needed to ensure we have empty grain bins for upcoming brew days.
Shipping, Logistics and Inventory Management:
- Maintain Raw Material, Chemical and Packaging inventories
- Communicate with Devil’s Canyon Management and Contract Accounts to ensure timely arrival of materials for scheduled brew days and packaging days.
- Ensure proper inventory rotation.
Continual Process Improvement:
- Review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regularly to ensure documentation, accuracy, and suggest edits.
- Assist in the creation of new SOPs as needed.
- Formulation of new recipes
Addition Requirements:
- Passionate and responsible about beer.
- Desire and ability to be the Team Leader and assist in the planning and execution of daily and weekly tasks.
- Experienced operator of canning, bottling, and labeling lines, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Experience with pumps, glycol systems, boiler, basic electrical, basic plumbing and facilities maintenance.
- Assist in recipe development for seasonal/specialty beer.
