Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidates will have a strong academic background, excellent research and writing skills, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse legal matters across multiple practice groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research using various resources to assist attorneys in case preparation, including statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, codes, and documents.
- Document Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and edit a variety of legal documents such as pleadings, contracts, briefs, discovery materials, motions, real estate, and various transaction documents.
- Matter Management: Assist attorneys with case management, including organizing and maintaining case files, managing deadlines, and coordinating schedules.
- Business Entities: Forming and maintaining diverse types of business entities in Ohio and Michigan. Includes performing UCC and regulatory website searches for licensure and entity status.
- Client Interaction: Communicate effectively with clients to gather information, provide updates, and answer inquiries under the guidance of an attorney.
- Trial Preparation: (if applicable) Aid in trial preparation by organizing exhibits, evidence, and trial notebooks; preparing witnesses; and attending trials, as necessary.
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative support such as filing legal documents with the court, managing electronic and physical case files, and scheduling meetings.
- Compliance and Regulation: Ensure all actions comply with relevant laws and regulations and keep up to date with changes in legal procedures and policies.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with attorneys, other paralegals, and legal assistants to ensure efficient and effective legal operations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field, or proven experience. Paralegal certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in a legal setting, preferably within a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Skills:
- Exceptional legal research and writing skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and office software (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Work Environment:
- Location: Office-based with occasional remote work flexibility.
- Hours: Full-time position requiring 37.5 hours per week, with occasional extended hours as needed to meet deadlines.
