Summary
The UPS Service Engineer for Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS) systems is responsible for refurbishing, installation, preventive maintenance, routine repair and trouble-shooting of UPS systems and equipment for electronic, mechanical and electrical requirements. This position provides emergency services as required. Services are provided throughout the continental U.S.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Uses thorough knowledge of the construction, installation, operation, and troubleshooting of sophisticated circuitry and controls associated with UPS projects.
Applies an intensive and diversified knowledge of complete UPS start-up, testing and operations.
Builds battery systems and preps equipment for shipment to customer’s site.
Performs commissioning focused design reviews, prepares commissioning test procedures and reports, coordinates and oversees on-site testing.
Responsible for commissioning, maintaining and providing emergency support at customers’ sites.
Provide battery and equipment replacement when necessary.
Perform Quality Control and Site Inspections.
Drives a DOT regulated commercial vehicle, loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials
Organizing warehouse and logging equipment inventory.
When not in field perform equipment testing, rebuild older systems. Seek appropriate training.
Discuss with technical support, problems related to maintenance or operation of equipment.
Participates in the development of Methods of Procedures (MOPs)
Consults with supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments.
Read electrical schematics and single-line diagrams
Install and maintain 3-phase/480v and 208v systems
Uses electrical/electronic test equipment and electricity fundamentals daily
Analyzes test data and recognize deviation from acceptable values.
Work with critical power infrastructure for data center environments.
Interpret electrical one-line diagrams and schematics to component level
Apply working knowledge of electronic theory and UPS systems
Evaluate the operating conditions of UPS equipment
Ability to interact with all levels of internal employees and customers
Completes comprehensive Field Service Reports within a timely manner
Applies knowledge of equipment manufacturer’s specifications
Provide necessary pro-active recommendations to clients
Must participate and successfully complete all training as required by the company.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: Associates Degree in Electronics, Military Electronics Training equivalent, Trade School Training equivalent with3+ years’ relevant experience in this field or 5+ years’ relevant experience in this field.
Skills: Working knowledge of 12VDC, 120VAC, 208VAC, & 480VAC and 3 phase. Experience with UPS systems, 25KVA and larger systems preferred. Strong analytical and technical skill, diagnostic capabilities, and the ability to learn new technologies and systems. Ability to read schematics drawings and company technical publications. Ability to read electrical drawings and knowledge of troubleshooting, test and repair techniques. Strong mechanical aptitude. UPS OEM factory training or experience in Vertiv/Liebert, APC/MGE/Schneider, or Eaton/Powerware, a plus. Excellent verbal, written communication skills, and customer relation skills.Ability to work independently and resourcefully with good initiative and a positive attitude. Ability to follow directions with attention to detail.Valid current driver's license and good driving record required. Ability to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Certificate & pass a drug and alcohol screen and comply with DOT regulations. Must be willing to work varied shifts to support our 7/24/365 - day operation including nights, weekends, and holidays; and serve on a rotating on call team to respond to emergency calls. Proficient with software such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and other applicable applications as required.
