ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Manager, Business Development will be part of the Global Growth Unit with headquarters at the New York Office and serve as an integral member of the global team, along with counterparts in SWN Ghana and India country offices. The Manager will be responsible for securing funding for Safe Water Network operations in Ghana and India, for core functions of the New York Office, and for prospective operations in regional markets in Africa and Asia, as well as maintaining relations and fulfilling grant management requirements with the overall portfolio of funders.
The portfolio consists of institutional funders (private foundations, bilateral development cooperation agencies, and multilateral institutions); corporate donors (corporate philanthropies, corporate and employee giving programs), and individual contributors (high net-worth individuals, affinity groups, and small donations from individuals).
In addition, the Manager will work with the CEO to mobilize investment for safe water enterprises globally. This will involve establishing strategic partnerships and investment facilities with financial institutions, public and private, domestic, and international, financial intermediaries, and like-mined sector partners.
The base salary range for this position is $100,000 to 140,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Funding Strategy Development & Program Advancement
· Identification and development of funding opportunities: Identify, cultivate, and prioritize current and new fundraising and strategic opportunities, specifically with US and international development agencies, government, foundations, and corporations to finance the global multi-year strategic plan.
· Proposal Development and Reporting: Identify adequate partners for SWN’s capacity gaps, initiate brainstorming and negotiation of scopes of work and budgets, securing partner inputs. Draft proposals, including integration of inputs from country offices, as appropriate, to develop informed proposals.
· Strategic Initiatives Materials: Working with functional department and country leads, define Safe Water Network’s Strategic Initiatives (e.g., Consumer, Water Quality, Development Finance, etc.) and develop necessary reference materials (i.e. Case for Support, PowerPoint presentation, brief sell sheet). Develop and implement a program to organize and update materials on a regular and consistent basis.
· CRM Support System: oversee use of NEON-One donor database within the organization, customizing as needed to support Business Development analysis and Management reporting. Collaborate on integration across departments (Communications, Finance and Fundraising) to support outfacing activities and fundraising efforts.
· Internal Communications: Ensure the global Safe Water Network management team maintains visibility on the progress of key global business development initiatives, prioritized actions, and requirements.
Program Management
· Prospect Funding & Development: Monitor and pursue new funding opportunities, including competitive tenders, formal proposals solicitation, and award/prize competition. Guide country teams specifically on development agency funding/proposal processes, compliance, reporting, M&E expectations for programs.
· Program Budget Development: In partnership with global Finance teams, develop comprehensive budget proposal ensuring global alignment across departments, countries, programs, and funders.
· : Conduct prospecting and business development visits to SWN’s country offices to identify and prepare for upcoming funding opportunities.
Grant Management
· Grant Proposals: Work with country offices on grant applications and program/budget development. Engage US Finance team on US budget development and lead global team reviews for submission to funders.
Grant Reporting & Compliance: Monitor program advancement with country teams to ensure commitments (e.g., written deliverables) are delivered in compliance with contract requirements, and reports are professionally presented for submission to funders. Maintain the grant reporting calendar, adhering to grant deadlines.
Donors and Sector Partner Engagement
· Maintain awareness of current donor and partner strategies, events, projects, and partnerships at the local and international levels.
· Facilitate relations with select donors and partners; serve as the primary point of contact for institutional donors and partners when CEO is unavailable.
· Plan participation and represent SWN’s business development interests at relevant meetings, events, and conferences.
· Collaborate with SWN Communications to enhance visibility on initiatives. Manage partner updates on SWN website and identify channels for promoting partnerships, joint articles, and blog posts for different audiences.
· Develop and manage external events, conferences, award/competitions pipeline, especially those that require extensive application/proposal. Improve external visibility and identify strategic communications opportunities with Market Insights.
· Collaborate on the planning, organization, and implementation of fundraising activities and special events – including annual giving and capital campaigns, meetings, stakeholder events, direct mail, cultivation visits, solicitation visits, etc.

Education: Master-level degree in public policy, business administration, international relations, water engineering, or in a discipline in the social sciences or related fields.
Experience: 5-10 years of experience working for public, private, or not-for-profit institutions in fund raising, stewarding relations with private foundations, corporate philanthropies, and /or individual contributors.

· Proven track record of success in fundraising and donor cultivation
· Strong interpersonal skills for building and maintaining relationships with funders.
· Analytical and data-driven mindset for assessing project outcomes and impact.
· Strong understanding of grant application processes, regulations, and compliance.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to maintain a multi-donor database and make improvements where necessary.
· Ability to work collaboratively with global and cross-functional teams in multi-cultural organizations.
· Commitment to health equity, women’s empowerment, and human rights.
Preferred
· Prior experience working in Africa and/or Asia.
· Prior experience working for international organizations, public, private, or not-for-profit.
· Familiarity with WASH sector, public health, and/or social and economic development.
Technical Proficiency:
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office tools and products (Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint), including ability to leverage up-to-date technology to enhance communication and reporting.
- Experience with NEON One, Raiser’s Edge, or other similar not-for-profit specialized CRM programs.
Travel: ability and desire to travel internationally to Ghana and India offices, as needed, as well as to regional fact-finding missions and international conferences. Approximately 15% to 30% of time.
