Purpose: The Education & Programs Department at The Heritage Society strives to provide an inspirational learning environment about Houston's history, and engage patrons of all ages through programs, exhibits, tours and museum events. The position encompasses all facets of programming and events and community outreach program development.
Role and Responsibilities:
□ Assists group tours manager by contacting schools, daycares, summer camps, garden clubs, senior groups, and like-minded cultural and civic organizations
□ Coordinates docents for all tours scheduled.
□ Works directly with volunteers and interns.
□ Researches and proposes programs that THS can host. This could include book signings, panel discussions, history lectures, etc.
□ Manages events including indoor and outdoor, one-time and ongoing, educational programs and non- fundraising events
□ Attends Executive Board Meeting and Board Members Meetings and confers with Board Member responsible for Programs & Events
□ Creates a report every month and reports consistent measurables such as highlights, headcount, revenue, labor hours, costs, supplies, what went well, and what needed improvement
□ Attends Staff meetings monthly
□ Adheres to budgetary processes
□ Attains or helps attain grants for programs, events, and education in general
□ Works with Communications to promote events and programs in-person and online
□ Attains speakers and subject matter experts for programs and events
□ Recruits and uses interns and volunteers for larger programs and events
□ Ensures that every program and event meets the educational objectives and fulfills grant requirements

Physical Requirements:
□ Frequently remains stationary (standing or sitting) position 80% of the time
□ Occasionally stands for several hours at a time
□ Occasionally moves about the office to access office, programs/events supplies and equipment
□ Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., telephone, calculator, copy machine, scanner, and computer printer, projectors and smart phones)
□ Sometimes reaches shelves to place and retrieves office supplies and equipment
□ Occasionally moves office supplies, audience chairs, podium, and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds on the premises
□ Is exposed to outdoor weather conditions during tours and events
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
□ Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in History (preference given to certified teachers of History and Public History degrees)
□ Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Instagram, YouTube, and Zoom
□ Museum and/or non-profit experience preferred
