This position is responsible for administering the Pension & Annuity Benefits of the Plan to the Participants.

As a Retirement Specialist your job responsibilities will be:
- Obtain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Fund’s Pension and Annuity Plans
- Answer phone calls from Participants in regards to their Retirement Benefits
- Answer chats and emails through the Fund’s Website
- Explain Retirement Benefit Plan policies, procedures, entitlements and legal requirements to Participants and Beneficiaries
- Perform timely and accurate processing of benefit statements, applications and payments
- Provide day-to-day operational support of retirement benefits such as inquiries, callbacks, and distributions
- Assist in the implementation of new plans, programs, and changes to plans and/or administrative procedures
- Ensure compliance with provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)
- Prepare or review reports and filings required by federal, state, and other regulatory agencies
- Process applications for Retirement Commencement, Hardship Withdrawals, Death Benefits etc.
- Analyze, draft, & finalize Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDRO) for retirement plans, calculate Alternate Payee portion due, and correspond with attorneys, participants & alternate payees regarding court orders
- Conduct in-person Retirement Appointments with Members and their spouses
- Assist with document mailing, scanning, and archiving
Qualifications necessary to perform these duties:
- Strong Customer Service skills and the desire to provide each and every participant with outstanding service
- Proficient with all Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point
- Excellent social, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with utmost discretion, respect and ethics
- Ability to effectively prioritize handling multiple deadlines
- Understanding and use of complex formulas to calculate benefits for participants and generate retirement estimates
- Ability to work within and across teams/departments, as well as individually
- Analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot data discrepancies
- Ability to adapt to continually changing Plan designs and IRS regulations
