JOB DESCRIPTION
Staff RN - EVENING SHIFT Starting Wage $80,000-$90,000/yr
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current NYS Registration for RN (copy required upon initial hire date)
- Valid New York State Drivers License (copy required upon initial hire date)
- Yearly Physical (required within 1 month of initial hire date)
PREFERRED:
- Experience with adolescents
HOURS:
- 40 hour work week; 3pm-11pm; M-F; flexible to meet the needs of the program.
POSITION OBJECTIVES:
- To provide high quality nursing care and health education to the residents of The William George Agency.
- To provide continuing education to staff concerning OSHA regulations.
- To oversee medication administration in the cottages.
- To develop health/safety related issues of the residents and staff.
- To participate in development of health care policy for The William George Agency.
- To oversee the Hepatitis B vaccine program for staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Medical Director and Nursing Supervisor in timely review of policies, procedures and protocols
for medical and nursing care at the clinic.
- Maintain documentation in a medical record for each child at The William George Agency in accordance
with established practices and NYS OCFS regulations.
- Conduct appropriate medical and health examinations as directed by Medical Director or stipulated by
NYS OCFS regulations.
- Provide appropriate nursing and medical care to the children who have health related complaints and
make appropriate referrals as necessary.
- Ensure that Cottage Director and Manager are informed of the health needs of each child in their care.
Attend cottage meetings to discuss health care issues as needed or at request of Cottage Director or
Manager.
- Directly supervise and maintain medication logs prescribed by the physician and psychiatrists in accordance with established medical practices and NYS OCFS regulations.
- Conduct medication classes for cottage staff to include: The 5 rights of medication administration
- Correct documentation/charting of medication administration
- Familiarize CCW with side effects of specific medications
- Review injury/illness protocols
- Correct protocol and documentation of medication errors
- Maintain communication with Cottage Manager/Director
- Attend 30 day treatment meeting, planning conferences and cottage meetings as possible. Prepare written health summaries as needed.
- Conduct OSHA classes on blood borne pathogens for staff as needed and maintain written records.
- Offer Hepatitis B Vaccine program, including education of staff and administration of vaccine; maintain
written records of administration or declination of Hepatitis B Vaccine.
- Assist in staff physical exams to include BP, PPD and maintain written records for medical clinic/personnel.
- Perform tasks as assigned by supervising nurse to insure optimum functioning of the clinic.
These tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining inventory of medical supplies/equipment
- Ordering supplies/equipment as needed
- Routine housekeeping duties to maintain building
- Submitting repair orders and requisitions for supplies as needed
- Scheduling of residents/staff to see physician as needed
- Scheduling off-campus appointments for dental visits
- Scheduling/transporting residents to medical trips as ordered by physician. Staff nurse must use WGA vehicle (except for special circumstances).
- Provide health related counseling and education to residents
- Monitor children at meals and in school for medication administration and health assessments.
- Draw blood work as ordered by physician using standard medical practices and OSHA guidelines.
- Procure, maintain and update immunization records for each resident at The William George Agency.
- Following standard orders, assess and treat medical conditions as needed, making proper referrals.
- Staff nurses will be available to AOD via Agency issued cell phone 24 hours/day. Cell phone call will rotate among staff. Written record will be kept of calls and transcribed to medical charts in a timely fashion.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director or Nursing Supervisor.
- Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with every safety standard, practice and policy of The William George Agency. This includes, but is not limited to, review of The William George Agency's Safety Policy and attending all required safety related training.
- Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies and philosophy of The William George Agency and the New York
Office of Children and Family Services.
POSITION LEVEL: Responsible to the Medical Director and Supervising Nurse.
