Description of Operation:
Ross Ranch is a 1,600 acre cattle ranch located in Caldwell, Texas. We are currently running 230 Brangus cows and 12 Angus/Brangus bulls and are desirous of increasing herd size to approximately 250 cows. The property is comprised of a main ranch house, guest house, ranch manager home, and barns. All pastures have improved coastal Bermuda grass.
Position:
We are seeking a Ranch Manager to manage and oversee the day-to-day ranch operations.
Responsibilities:
Manager would be responsible for selection and acquisition of all breeding stock, fertility testing, pregnancy testing, calving success, supplemental feeding programs, and calf crop sale. Manager would maintain cattle records and be able to determine body condition scores (BCS) of herd and design supplemental feed programs as needed to maintain herd health and improve conception rates. Individual would schedule and procure all veterinary supplies and applications needed for herd health. Responsibilities will also include maintenance of all fences, trees, equipment, and building structures and lawn and landscaping of all ranch structures. Manager would be responsible for securing outside contractors as needed, along with any additional ranch labor needed for special projects. Individual would take annual soil samples for all pastures and schedule all fertilizer/weed control applications for pastures and hay meadows as needed and baling of hay production. Manager would be responsible for establishing a pasture burn plan to burn 3-400 acres of pastures annually.
Qualifications:
Position requires 3+ years of ranch management experience. A Bachelor’s degree, along with post-graduate work in a relevant field could be substituted for experience. Experience in cattle selection, breeding, nutritional plans as well as cattle sales is required. Ross Ranch is looking for a self-starter, highly motivated, intellectually curious, honest, open and straight forward individual with a strong work ethic along with the ability to perform physically challenging tasks is critical. The candidate must be able to safely operate and perform routine maintenance of all ranching equipment to include D5 dozer, tractors, grapples, shredders, gopher machines and all power and hand tools. Records will need to be kept of all equipment and maintenance schedules. Individual must have experience with Excel, Word and Quickbooks. A pesticide/herbicide applicator’s license or be able to readily obtain is a necessity.
Salary/Benefits:
Compensation will be based on work experience and includes a 3BR, 2.5 bath, brick home on 1.6 fenced acres within the ranch. Manager will be required to live on the property and therefore will not be subject to income tax on the home value. Ranch will provide a monthly health insurance and truck allowance.
