The Domestic Abuse Shelter has openings for full-time Advocates. High school diploma, proficient computer skills and a valid Florida driver’s license required. Advocates provide coverage for a 24-hour shelter and hotline. Training provided.

Survivors of domestic violence need access to lifesaving information and emotional support to navigate the legal system, seek justice, and heal. That’s why domestic violence advocates are a vital resource. These professional advocates help survivors of domestic violence receive the resources and assistance they need to cope and move forward with their lives. An advocate’s role is to educate and empower.
The Shelter Advocate is responsible for providing support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and their children in the emergency shelter, including assisting shelter residents with daily living needs and providing general support and shelter coverage. The Shelter Advocate also documents services provided to clients through the client records database, prepares rooms for new residents, and attends team meetings and training.
Work shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays to ensure adequate coverage of the shelter program.
Experience in social service related field, preferred but not required. Those who identify as survivors of violence or abuse are encouraged to apply.
Starting salary - $37,440, overtime available. Additional $1.00 for verifiable read, write and speak bilingual. Employee Health benefits paid at 90% after ninety days. Paid holidays and generous PTO accrual. Optional retirement plan with DAS match, up to 3%, after one year. A onetime $1000.00 retention bonus will be paid out after one year of employment without disciplinary action.
If selected for employment, you must be a resident of Monroe County at the time of hiring and live within 50 miles of the service location you will be working from. All employees must pass a Level II background check to maintain employment. All employees are required to be fully vaccinated and provide documentation.
