- The incumbent is a Staff Psychologist who applies a wide range or professional psychological treatments and assessment methods to a variety of patient populations located within the North Florida / South Georgia Veterans Health System Mental Health Service Line (NF/SGVHS MHSL).
- Collaborates with other disciplines to promote health behavior change on both a direct patient care as well as systematic level, which may include collaboration with the MOVE! Weight Management Program, Whole Health Program, and PACT clinicians. Systematic programming may relate to health behaviors and disease prevention efforts, such as tobacco cessation and other healthy living initiatives.
- Provides professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavior health, including coordinating and leading relevant trainings for other clinicians if needed, including patient centered communication skills training.
- Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions for Veterans and other eligible patients through a variety of modalities including evidence-based practices and adjunctive interventions including but not necessarily limited to individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy, consultation, rehabilitation, and psycho-education.
- Diagnoses mental disorders, and conducts psychological and/or cognitive function assessments and neuropsychological screenings.
- Designs and implements effective treatment strategies
- Incorporates new clinical procedures when appropriate.
- Provides professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
- Participates in evaluation of peers as part of the FPPE and OPPE review process and is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate.
- Provides regular supervision to trainees and unlicensed staff if approved by their supervisor, service chief and (for trainees) the Psychology Training Director or Associate Training Director and may participate in the psychology training program, psychology diversity committee, or other special interest committee or work group.
- Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff and trainees and assist in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients.
- Conducts research activities, such as designing and implementing clinical research projects (staff psychologists with specified research job duties).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

- Knowledge of and ability to apply a wide range of professional psychological treatments or assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.
- Ability to design and implement effective treatment strategies.
- Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures.
- Ability to conduct research activities, such as designing and implementing clinical research projects (staff psychologists with specified research job duties).
- Ability to perform basic research tasks of scholarship and research execution within the context of an established research team, including research participant relations, research documentation, data acquisition, maintenance, and collaboration.
Staff Psychologist GS-13 (Full Performance Level)
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply, professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations.
- Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
- Knowledge of clinical research literature.
