Children's Case Manager
Job Description
Neopolitan Lighthouse is non-for-profit community-based organization dedicated to social change by promoting the safety, emotional, educational, and practical needs of those impacted by Gender Based and Domestic Violence. Neopolitan provides comprehensive trauma informed supportive services to assist survivors in breaking the cycle of violence and becoming self-sufficient and self-reliant. The agency is committed to promoting from within the organization. Some of the duties and responsibilities of the Children’s Case Manager are detailed below:
Responsibilities:
- Complete intake for children and provide service throughout their stay that focuses on non-violent conflict resolution, identifying feelings, reconciling feelings towards witnessing domestic violence, healthy self-esteem empowerment, strengthening the mother child bond.
- Provide individual and group counseling, education, and intervention for the children.
- Provide age-appropriate educational services (preschool, homework assistance, etc.)
- Plans activities around educational, recreational, and emotional needs of all ages of children in the group.
- Provides individual and group education & intervention for the children.
- Provides family counseling/intervention as needed.
- Provides information and referrals to mothers for needs of children.
- Advocate on behalf of children in matters of education, family or individual counseling, referrals, etc.
- Provide advocacy for children with school system including transportation to and from school through linkage.
- Serves as a positive role model to mothers in the program in managing children’s behavior/parenting.
- Be familiar with the DCFS laws and issues pertaining to children.
- Work with mothers on positive parenting practices by facilitating parenting groups.
- Work with children/parents to complete a written safety plan for each child.
- Work with other staff to provide a positive, safe, and empowering environment for all residents.
- Document services provided according to program standards.
- Tracks, documents, and reports on required grant information.
- Children’s Case Manager is responsible for no less than 20 hours a week of documented counseling hours.
- Complete outcome measures with each child during their stay.
- Complete children’s service plans and update the documents with follow-up dates for services provided.
- Close out children’s files weekly and monthly as families leave the program.
- Participate in appropriate training seminars.
- Provide crisis interventions.
- Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings.
- Attend/ participate in agency and program events.
- Answer 24-hr. crisis line and cover shelter shifts when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in social work or related field accepted but a master’s is preferred. One to two years’ experience working with children and knowledge of the issues pertaining to abused women and their children. 40-hour domestic violence certification is a plus.
Work Hours:
The shelter facility operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each employee will have specific work schedule.
