I am an attorney who has represented hundreds of nurses before the Nevada State Board of Nursing over the past 14 years. Increasingly, I see a need to retain, from time to time, an consultant or expert in nursing willing to testify as to standards of care. My main priority is for an APRN consultant/expert, but I could also use someone for RN, LPN and CNA cases. This could involve one or more of the following activities:
- Consult with attorney as to the standard of care in a particular case, evaluating whether or not a nurse's actions complied with an acceptable standard of care.
- Prepare a written response to the Board in certain cases, based upon the facts provided by the client and revealed by the investigation.
- Research and written findings as a consultant.
- Prepare a written report for submission to the Board.
- Testify at Board hearings in defense of my nurse client.
- Assist in the review and/or preparation of discovery responses, depositions, or cross examination of witnesses.
In order to consider you for the position, you need to have the following:
- Extensive clinical experience and/or educational background.
- No prior disciplinary action against you in any state, as per Nursys.com
- No prior criminal record.
- Acceptance as an expert before the NSBN or another Board preferable but not required.
- An understanding or ability to ascertain the applicable standard of care in Nevada for nurses.
- Leadership in a clinical setting, such as Charge nurse or Director of Nursing, helpful.
- Knowledge of cutting-edge practices in APRN field is helpful, such as med spas, mobile IV services, etc.
- Published, peer-reviewed articles in nursing journals are a plus.
- Excellent analytical and research skills.
- Ability to write clearly.
- Willing to appear before the NSBN remotely for direct and cross examination.
