Job Overview:
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Safety Support Specialist to provide administrative and secretarial support to our Safety Manager. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our safety department by assisting with various administrative tasks and supporting the Safety Manager in maintaining compliance and safety standards.
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm
Key responsibilities include:
- Safety Administration:
- Driver Qualification Coordinator: Conduct background checks, verify references, and manage driver qualifications for those seeking to lease with Mercer.
- Drug and Alcohol Administrator: Serve as a backup for drug and alcohol testing, including running tests on randomly selected drivers and those leasing with Mercer.
- Front Desk Administrative Assistant:Act as a backup at the front desk, answering phones and assisting drivers when they visit the office.
- Other: Assist with various administrative duties as needed.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Receive and relay calls for departmental assistance from employees, agents, drivers, and others, ensuring necessary follow-up for task completion.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Report driver terminations and update the status in the computer system.
- Assist in filing and purging documentation in the driver qualification files.
- Compile and maintain Excel spreadsheets or designated programs tracking driver compliance issues.
- General Administrative Support:
- Assist with mail, UPS, and FedEx operations as needed
- Type letters/correspondence for management as required.
Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Basic experience using computers. Ability to answer phones, maintain accurate correspondence and field/answer all routine and non-routine questions.Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey information effectively and provide others with a clear understanding of information.
