TMRS Overview
The Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) is a statewide public retirement system that provides retirement, disability, and death benefits to more than 220,000 employees, retirees and their beneficiaries of 938 participating Texas cities. TMRS manages more than $40 billion in Trust Fund assets with a $38 million annual operating budget.

Duties and Responsibilities*
The Director of Accounting, who reports to the Chief Financial Officer, directs all operations of TMRS’ Accounting department and works closely with the investment operations team. Duties include:
- Overseeing and evaluating the department’s operational effectiveness.
- Ensuring that accounting transactions are properly recorded and presented in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Leading the implementation of NetSuite general ledger system.
- Developing and overseeing accounting policies and procedures.
- Preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
- Preparing and presenting budgets.
- Working with internal and external auditors and actuaries.
- Researching pension and financial accounting issues.
- Creating and presenting financial reports.
- Implementing departmental process improvements and optimizing resources.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licensing*
- Certified Public Accountant (required).
- Experience with NetSuite.
- At least five years of management experience.
- Knowledge of GASB requirements strongly preferred.

Competitive minimum salary of $150,000 and higher possible commensurate with experience and qualifications.
