ASTA represents nearly 700 members in the seed industry globally and works with partners worldwide to promote international policy alignment on issues affecting seed trade. The Programs Specialist is a part time position, (20 hours per week), serving as the lead on implementing ASTA’s international programming across five continents and provide administrative assistance to ASTA’s domestic and international teams, to ensure that activities move forward in a timely and successful manner. The approximate split between support for international and domestic programs is 80% and 20%.
· Manage and provide administrative support for ASTA’s international and domestic programs. Lead the implementation of these programs, by working with ASTA’s senior staff. The Programs Specialist will:
o Support administrative needs for ASTA’s export promotion activities that receive funding support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Market Access Program (MAP), Foreign Market Development (FMD) program, and Agricultural Trade Promotion (ATP) program.
o Coordinate travel logistics for domestic and international meetings, including hotels, transportation, and formulation of agendas.[FLC1]
o Schedule meetings, prepare itineraries, and required travel documents.
o Assist with drafting strategy documents and grant applications that support ASTA’s international programming.
o Assist with the development of internal and external communications related to ASTA’s international activities, including, but not limited to the Better Seed Bulletin Newsletter, monthly trade lead alerts, and monthly board of director’s reports.
o Serve as the administrative liaison between ASTA and the International Seed Federation.[FLC2]
o Provide administrative support for Government Affairs activities, including, but not limited to assisting with the scheduling of Congressional and Administration meetings, and assisting with ASTA coalition activities.
· Provide administrative support and manage several working groups of ASTA Members that provide strategic policy direction on international seed trade.[FLC3]
· Perform other duties as may be requested, including but not limited to travelling to ASTA conferences to provide administrative support.
Candidates should be detail-oriented, excel at working in teams, and have excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. The candidate must be people oriented and willing to work closely with ASTA Staff, ASTA members, and foreign delegations. A background in the agricultural sector, such as writing, editing, and/or knowledge of international markets for agricultural trade would be beneficial. Foreign language skills are beneficial. Some domestic travel will be required, and the candidate may be able to participate in international travel as their role progresses.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
