PREFERRED:
§ Experience with adolescents
§ Prior experience with medication transcription
§ Prior experience with ordering medications
§ Experience with EMARs, EHRs, Prescription Monitoring Programs
§ Proficiency with Excel
§ Ability to coordinate and work cooperatively with multiple internal departments and external vendors
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must successfully complete all required background checks:
- Criminal History Record Checks (CHRC)
- NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR)
- NYS Sex Offender Registry (SOR)
- NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) fingerprinting
- NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL)
- Out-of-state child abuse register inquiry of any state in which the person resided within the last five years (if applicable)
- NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List
- NYS Profession – Professional License Check
HOURS:
§ 7:00am-3:30pm; M-F
§ Flexible to meet the needs of the program
SALARY:
$80,00-90,000 per year
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
§ Must be able to complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training
POSITION OBJECTIVES:
§ Monitoring and organizing all facets of medication ordering, administration and inventory control
§ Coordinating continuity of medication delivery and administration between multiple departments, agencies and recipients of services
§ Ensuring timely, accurate documentation in EMARs, and EHRs
§ Able to work independently, meeting strict guidelines, with a high degree of professionalism and accuracy
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Review and reconcile resident’s medications upon admission to ensure continuity of care
B. Secure approval to continue medications from physician or psychiatric nurse practioner, as indicated by classification of medication
C. Process medication orders electronically, ensuring all information is complete and accurate for prescriber’s electronic signature
D. Create Medication Administration Record in Electronic Health Record with precision (EMAR)
E. Transcribe medications orders from psychiatric nurse practioner to paper physician order sheet; stage prescriptions on EMAR and submit image to provider for review
F. Maintain spreadsheet for resident’s prescribed psychotropic medications to ensure all protocols are followed as indicated
G. Communicate all medication orders with nursing staff; complete triplicates as appropriate
H. Review EMARs for accuracy of orders and documentation. Notify appropriate personnel of any missed medications or medication errors
I. Maintain communications with residential staff regarding travel plans. Create spreadsheet medication needs, methods of transport, and identification of controlled substances. Update travel plans as medications are added or changed. Reviw EMARs to ensure accuracy of the correct amount of dosages needed for travel. Verifying inventories of on-hand medications to ensure utilization and proper inventory management. Faxing travel plans to pharmacy for order fulfillment. Monitoring and updating travel plans as need to ensure proper availability of medications and accuracy of medications ordered. Proper documentation of all records relating to travel
J. Administer medications to residents as needed, following the seven rights of medication administration
K. Provide coverage to cottages as needed
L. Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director or Nursing Supervisor.
M. Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with every safety standard, practice, and policy of The William George Agency. This includes but is not limited to, a review of The William George Agency's Safety Policy and attending all required safety-related training.
N. Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and philosophy of The William George Agency and the New York
Office of Children and Family Services.
