JOB DESCRIPTION - Essential Functions
The teacher shall:
1. Reflect the purpose of the school which is to honor Christ in every class and in every activity.
2. Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their
witness and Christian role modeling.
3. Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
4. Cooperate with the administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and
directives governing the operation of the school.
5. Have a positive attitude toward Sunnyvale Christian School and its leadership. Discuss concerns
privately with the appropriate supervisor in a direct, calm manner. Provide solutions where
possible.
6. Plan and work collaboratively and cooperatively with other staff members.
7. Teach classes as assigned, following prescribed scope and sequence, as scheduled by the
administration.
8. Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum
and activities.
9. Clearly communicate classroom rules and consistently enforce them. Keep proper
discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment.
10. Treat behavior problems individually and privately discuss them with the student.
11. Maintain a clean, attractive and well-ordered classroom. Change bulletin boards to match
lessons.
12. Plan broadly through the use of curriculum mapping and daily plans and objectives, to achieve
educational and developmental goals, focusing on Project Based Learning.
13. Prepares lesson plans and materials for the week prior to the start of each week, submitting
on-line and sharing documentation and project work collaboratively.
14. Plan a program of study to address the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students,
challenging each to do his/her best work, and encourage learning and application of knowledge.
15. Utilize valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the
school's philosophy.
16. Participate actively with children the majority of the day. Encourage and assist the children who
need special help. Accept, respect, and utilize the children’s ideas. Listen to children attentively,
engage in meaningful verbal interaction, and be alert to non-verbal cues.
17. Foster group awareness in the classroom, a feeling of belonging, and mutual love and respect.
18. Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative
teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
