Job Description
The Manager, HR Operations will shepherd high-impact projects and execute on strategic and operational priorities that drive HR goals. This position reports to the Senior Manager, HR Operations and works closely with the Manager, HR Systems and various stakeholders to drive improvement of HR systems, ensure high-quality service to staff and organizational leaders, and support the building of processes that are efficient, effective, and consistent with Uncommon’s values. The Manager, HR Operations will manage 1 direct report at the Coordinator level.
Team Management

Manages a cohort within the HR Operations team, and holds direct report accountable to goals and expectations.

Actively monitors HR service delivery for direct report.

Oversees projects of direct report, and in some cases serves as Project Sponsor; holds them accountable to producing high-quality and timely deliverables.

Participates in the HR manager cohort, responsible for driving team morale and culture work.
Strategic Frontline and Payroll Support

Provides high-quality support to employees and managers, and coaches direct report to do the same.

Effectively on-boards and off-boards employees, including ensuring I-9 compliance.

Evaluates own workstreams and those of Operations team; makes data-driven, strategic recommendations for improvements that balance competing priorities and constraints.

Performs regular audits in Workday, Uncommon’s HRIS, to diagnose and resolve issues, collaborating with the Systems and Payroll teams where necessary.

Troubleshoots functional and system issues in a timely manner, ensuring quick and thorough resolution.
HR Operations Support & Cross-Functional Project Management

Contributes to and, in some cases leads, oversight of all Operations workstreams, including cross-team collaboration with Payroll; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Recruitment; and Talent Strategy.

Provide strategic support to the Senior Manager of HR Operations in the implementation of the HR team’s annual plan.

Directly manages projects; including developing comprehensive project plans that identify clear milestones, dependencies, assumptions; handles risk contingencies; and provides regular status updates for senior leaders.

Maintains a deep understanding of all HR Operations projects and how they interact with HR’s remaining four functions.
Qualifications

3-4 years of directly related experience
-
3 years working in an operations, process, systems or project management focused role

2 years experience in direct management, with experience managing and/or coaching/onboarding/training junior team members

Familiarity with at least 1 HRIS (Workday strongly preferred)

Excel

prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities and/or interest in and alignment with Uncommon's mission preferred

Compensation for this position: The starting compensation for this role based in NYC is between $85,000 to $100,000 and generally, we expect that qualified candidates in this location will be made an offer between $85,000 and $90,000. The starting pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, certification, and location. Because we value staff staying in their roles over time, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
