SUMMARY:
Texas Native Health is seeking a full-time psychiatrist to diagnose, treat, and prevent mental, emotional, substance, and behavioral disorders with the use of medication and psychotherapy. The psychiatrist must have extensive knowledge of and experience in psychopharmacology and behavioral therapies, and have experience treating patients who live with severe mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Ultimately, the psychiatrist will be a team-orientated and mission driven individual dedicated to helping patients recover and improve their lives.
Must hold an active, valid, and unrestricted full license from the Texas Medical Board to practice as a psychiatrist in the state of Texas, with no pending or previous disciplinary action from any state licensing entity.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Use a variety of methods to evaluate a patient, such as interviewing the patient, their family or other persons.
- Develop a treatment plan according to the needs of the patient’s needs and extent of emotional, social, cognitive, developmental or behavioral disorder.
- Treat a patient using psychotherapeutic methods and medication, monitoring the effects of any medication and adjusting treatment where necessary.
- Consult with the patient’s Primary Care Physician and other health care providers.
- Provide crisis intervention when needed.
- Write and maintain patient and clinical records, including the type of treatment and medication administered.
- Keep up to date with professional job knowledge by reading publications, attending educational conferences, and maintaining professional networks.
- Follow ethical and legal policies, procedures, and standards.
DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- MD or DO
- Work experience as a psychiatrist
- Full Texas Medical License
- DEA prescribing license
- Extensive knowledge of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions to a non-medical audience
- Strong observation skills to accurately evaluate patients’ demeanor and identify symptoms
- A great bedside manner and the ability to remain calm, empathetic, and patient while interacting with patients.
- Thoughtful, compassionate, flexible, and personable.
