The WNYCS Teaching Fellows program equips dedicated teachers to thrive in public Montessori educational environments. Our Montessori fellows receive training and guidance from seasoned and certified Montessori educators with experience in both private Montessori settings and rigorous charter school environments. Fellows are offered professional development opportunities and are trained to implement Montessori principles in a charter school setting, preparing them to become exceptional public Montessori guides.
**Duties:**
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the school's curriculum
- Provide instruction in various subjects including literacy, math, science, and social studies
- Utilize effective behavior management strategies to create a positive classroom environment
- Offer individualized tutoring and support to students as needed
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and educational initiatives
- Incorporate physical education and library services into the academic program
- Plan and conduct activities that promote literacy education and critical thinking skills
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field; teaching certification is required
- Proven experience in elementary education with a focus on student-centered learning
- Strong knowledge of education administration principles and practices
- Ability to develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and colleagues
- Invested in the Montessori approach to education as truly transformational, both for the child and the world.
- Food Handler Certification required or commitment to complete within 4 - 6 weeks of being hired
- At least 1 - 2 years of lead teaching experience required.
- Demonstrate commitment to an Anti-Bias and Anti-Racist education and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
- Motivated to work in a social justice-oriented organization, which includes reflecting on our own racial biases and developing a culturally responsive curriculum for our classrooms
- Comfortable interacting with diverse families and have experience with creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
**Preferred Skills:**
- Experience in curriculum development tailored to elementary school students
- Background in physical education programs for young learners
- Familiarity with tutoring methods to support students' academic growth
