Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting with timely ordering, acquisition, and distribution of supplies and products, including capital and non-capital inventory items within the center’s total purchasing budget, utilizing system software, inventory reports, vendor negotiations, and a just-in-time philosophy.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintains computerized inventory system.
- Collaboratively assists with maintaining appropriate level of inventory dollar value and inventory turns.
- Assures supplies and inventory are ordered expeditiously, utilizing a just-in-time inventory management philosophy.
- Ensures timely purchase order processing for and acquisition of all approved supplies and products, including capital and non-capital inventory items.
- Responsible for timely receiving and distributing of all supplies and products to ensure on-time procedure starts.
- Collaboratively meets with vendors to obtain product and pricing information.
- Contacts vendors when problems arise with a shipment and seeks solutions as needed.
- Monitors vendor performance on an ongoing basis and discusses with Center Management.
- Under direction of the management team, assists with ensuring proper utilization of Center’s purchasing budget, using cost reports from SIS program.
- Researches and explains or corrects any invoice/ purchase order discrepancies to ensure vendor adherence to negotiated prices and established terms.
- Notifies appropriate departments of back orders and shipping dates and seeks alternate vendors as appropriate.
- Collaboratively maintains accurate inventory PAR levels and periodically performs assessment of inventory dollar values.
- Assists with recording price changes into system and notifies appropriate individuals as necessary.
- Performs special projects, cost comparisons, research, etc. as needed.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all related information.
- Participates in Center’s Quality Improvement Program activities, including identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies.
- Attends all Center meetings and educational opportunities.
- Assists with weekly medication order.
- Maintains physicians’ preference cards.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- 1-3 years related to materials management or purchasing experience, preferably in a health care setting.
- Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills in order to facilitate effective interaction with a variety of health care professionals and personnel.
- Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize work efficiently to achieve Center goals.
Working Conditions:
- Requires standing, walking, lifting, and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- Periodic exposure to lifting, which requires proper body mechanics and adherence to safety procedures.
Based on the OSHA guidelines for protection against occupational exposure to Hepatitis and HIV, this position is described as Category II. This means that this position has some exposure to blood and body fluids. Policies are in place for Standard Precautions identifying risks and appropriate barrier protection.
Physical Requirements:
Medium Work - Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, including the human body, weighing 21 to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or 11 to 20 pounds frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- BCLS certification.
- Advanced education or training in surgical technology.
- One year recent experience in a multi-specialty OR.

Pay: $18.91 - $22.77 per hour
