Qualifications:
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of sewer repair, maintenance, and installation.
- Knowledge of materials used in system repair and construction.
- Knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions in equipment operation and repair.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in equipment operation.
- Knowledge of blue stake requirements.
- Skill in the use and care of tools and mechanical equipment.
- Skill in operation of a backhoe in traffic areas and in and around underground utilities.
- Ability to interpret and work from blueprints and engineering sketches.
- Ability to detect needed maintenance, repairs and operational adjustments in equipment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinate employees.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
- Ability to work with raw sewage and chemicals using normal protective equipment.
- Ability to work in small, cramped spaces and comply with confined space entry procedures.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (100 lbs.) short distances (100 feet or less).
- Ability to climb ladders to enter or exit manholes or vaults.
