Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery, a busy Orthopedic Surgery practice located in Manchester, Connecticut, has an opening for an experienced full time Surgical Coordinator to join their team!
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule patient surgeries, prepare and fax patient information to surgical facility. Schedule patient’s appointments to sign consent forms as well as any necessary post op appointments.
- Prepare and mail out surgery packets to the patient. Fax patient’s history and physical to their primary care physician.
- Authorize patient’s upcoming surgery within 30 days of their surgery date. Input authorization information in the patient’s account in the computer.
- Prior to surgery date, gather patient’s information, history and physical, consent, MRI report and any forms and send to surgical facility. Prepare films such as MRI, x-rays, bone scans and any braces for the providers to take into surgery.
- Write up surgical charge slips on day of surgery for physician to review after his cases. Gather charges for surgeries, fill out individual charge slips for each patient’s chart, copy charge slips and scan all charge slips with any authorization letters to billing company.
- Enter global dates in the computer and on the front of the patient’s chart.
Education, Work Experience, Technical Experience
High School Diploma with minimum 2 years experience in an orthopedic medical office required. Knowledge of authorizations for in-patient and outpatient surgical procedures is required. All tasks require on the job training because each task is specific. Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Medical Office Software required. Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding required. Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask. Requires independent judgment or planning when managing proper O.R. scheduling times. Impact of errors can result in patient’s surgery being delayed or cancelled.
Salary: commensurate with applicable experience
Job type: Full Time 8:30 AM - 5 PM, Monday-Friday
Travel may be necessary as Sports Medicine has practices in Manchester and Tolland.
