Directs the delivery of all Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy services on all campuses of NYPH, close affiliates across NYP enterprise, and contracted spiritual services programs. Oversees the religious, pastoral, and spiritual care offered to all patients, their loved ones, and hospital employees. Oversees clinical pastoral education program for all campuses of NYPH and ensures compliance with accrediting bodies. Liaises with faith communities. This is a professional position with supervisory responsibilities for department staff.
Essential Job Duties
- Directs, strategically plans, and creates vision for the implementation and delivery of all services, programs, and activities of the Pastoral Care & Education Department across all campuses of NYPH.

Develops staffing plans for the most effective provision of spiritual care to patients, their loved ones, and hospital employees. Heads cross-campus team cohesion and quality improvement initiatives.

Administers spiritual-care services across campuses in an integrated fashion, including maintaining all budgets and policies and procedures.

Supervises department managers with respect to their assigned portfolio including both operational and programmatic responsibilities. Monitors performance and adherence to attendance policies. Prepares performance evaluations and recommends appropriate personnel actions for staff, relative to promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action up to and including termination. Assists in the interpretation, development, and implementation of Hospital personnel and departmental policies and procedures.

Provides administrative, strategic, curricular, and budgetary oversight to ACPE Program across all campuses of NYPH and its affiliates. Supervises the Manager of Clinical Pastoral Education who is responsible to maintain its accreditation status in accord with all standards of ACPE.

Ensures that the Pastoral Care and Education Advisory Committee is active and functioning with cross-campus representation.

Maintains strong departmental relationships with outside agencies, including local seminaries, major religious bodies, ACPE, and chaplaincy certifying bodies that adhere to the Common Qualifications and Competencies for Professional Chaplaincy.

Develops programs to educate hospital staff, medical students, and others about the role and function of the Pastoral Care & Education Department and works closely with various committees and departments for interdisciplinary integration of spiritual-care services

Negotiates with religious judicatories for provision of full or part-time (paid or volunteer) clergy to be assigned to the department and evaluates their performance as appropriate.

Provides ethical, moral, and religious consultation to administrative, medical, nursing, and other staff as requested.

Performs all duties inherent to director’s role. Participates in hiring, training, evaluation, and termination of assigned staff according to hospital policies and procedures.
Required Criteria:

Master's Degree
-
Board Certification with chaplain certifying association that adheres to the Common Qualifications and Competencies for Professional Chaplaincy
-
7–10 years chaplaincy experience
-
At least 5 years of senior level (Director or above) experience managing departments, budgets, ACPE Program, and staff
-
Proven project management ability
-
Strong leadership and communication abilities
-
Commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive team
