PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of the RN Supervisor is to plan, organize and direct resident care on the Fox 1 and Fox 2 units in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations as may be directed by the Director of Nursing to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Be responsible for the total nursing care of residents during the shift worked.
· Supervise Licensed Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and nursing students to assure that the nursing care provided is of the highest quality.
· Supervise the serving of prescribed diets.
· Protect residents from accidents and injury.
· Oversee the cleanliness and orderliness of all areas of the nursing facility, for example, the medication rooms and the refrigerators.
· Make sure the process of admission and discharge is completed to Atherton’s policy.
· Be part of a leadership program for appropriate use of antibiotics on our facility.
· To be able to implement policy and procedures to improve the use of antibiotics.
· Recognize significant changes in residents’ condition and take necessary action and notify the attending physician.
· Oversee the preparation and forwarding of appropriate copies of medical records with any transfer of a resident.
· Participate in staff meetings.
· Assist with staffing needs when necessary.
· Personally inspect all incidents and ensure that an incident report is complete and notify the family and physician.
· Act as the first responder and supervisor in all emergency situations.
· Be conscious of the campus alarm panel at the Joslyn nurse’s station.
REQUIRED OTHER FUNCTIONS:
· Attend departmental and all-staff in-services and continuing education programs.
· Observe and practice safety and infection control procedures.
· Make sure all staff members follow the guidelines and the CDC recommendations for infection control prevention.
· Protect resident’s rights and confidentiality at all times.
· Be able to work harmoniously with co-workers.
· Be able to deal tactfully with residents, family members and visitors.
· Performs other duties as assigned; for example treatment nurse, charge nurse and passing medications.
· Monthly auditing of all lab orders and making sure that all labs are done in a timely manner.
· Follow up with the Pharmacist Consultant’s recommendations.
· Be a leader and promote teamwork with your superiors and the staff.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:
· Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
· Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and possess a current RN license for the State of California.
· Have a current CPR card.
· Have two years’ experience in nursing, preferably in a geriatric setting.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
· May be subject to multiple calls and frequent interruptions.
· May be subject to emotionally upset residents, family members or visitors.
· May be subject to emotionally upset patients, family members and employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORKING CONDITIONS:
· May be called on to work beyond normal work hours when necessary.
· May be called on to work in areas not normally assigned when necessary.
· Works in a well-lighted and ventilated indoor setting but may be required to visit residents outside the facility in emergency situations.
MANAGEMENT OR SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Supervise all nurses at all times and assign nurses to their duties each shift as needed.
