JOB DESCRIPTION - Essential Functions
The support teacher shall:
1. Assist the main teacher.
2. Reflect the purpose of the school which is to honor Christ in every class and in every
activity.
3. Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their
witness and Christian role modeling.
4. Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
5. Cooperate with the administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and
directives governing the operation of the school. Have a positive attitude toward
Sunnyvale Christian School and its leadership. Discuss concerns privately with
appropriate supervisor in a direct, calm manner, provide solutions where possible
6. Plan and work cooperatively with other staff members.
7. Assists in caregiving classroom routines.
8. Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout your
interactions with the children and staff members.
9. Clearly communicate classroom rules and consistently enforce them. Keep proper
discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment.
10. Treat behavior problems individually and privately discuss them with the student.
11. Assists teachers by maintaining a clean, attractive, safe and well-ordered classroom.
Assist teachers by changing bulletin boards to match lessons.
12. Assists in food service.
a. Maintain a clean environment (clean inside of microwave, etc.)
b. Wash dishes and pans as needed
13. Assists children in bathroom procedures; performs diapering duties as necessary.
14. Clean and sterilize toys on a monthly basis.
15. Assists with the implementation of health, emergency procedures and first aid.
16. Attends meetings and in-service meetings.
17. Participate actively with children the majority of the day. Encourage and assist the children who
need special help. Accept, respect, and utilize the children’s ideas. Listen to children attentively,
engage in meaningful verbal interaction, and are alert to non-verbal cues.
18. Assists teacher in fostering group awareness in the classroom, a feeling of belonging
and mutual love and respect.
19. Keep teacher, parents, and the administration adequately informed of progress or
deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure.
20. Assists the teacher by speaking with parents regularly and always provide necessary
information such as upcoming field trips, discipline, etc.
21. Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in a favorable and
professional manner to the school's constituency and the general public.
22. Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with
friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
23. Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and
administration. In the spirit of reconciliation, conflicts shall be brought directly to the
