Safety/Drug & Alcohol Supervisor

THE WORK: As a Safety Supervisor/ Drug & Alcohol leader, this role serves as the company's Designated Employer’s Representative (DER) and oversees Network safety. This role is also responsible for company’s Network safety. Big Star is growing significantly and has not had a safety manager in the past so the person hired for this position will, above all, be responsible for developing a safety culture.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring compliance with DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations.
- Selecting and supervising service agents such as third-party administrators, collection sites, laboratories, medical review officers, and substance abuse professionals.
- Developing written drug and alcohol testing policies and procedures.
- Training managers, supervisors and Team on drug and alcohol testing policies and procedures.
- Making decisions during the testing process and receiving test results.
- Removing contractors and Team Members from safety-sensitive positions if necessary.
- Maintaining records related to drug and alcohol testing.
- Maintaining Samsara software
- Ensuring the confidentiality of drug and alcohol testing information.
- Coordinating with DOT agencies, such as the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), as necessary.
· Oversee the accident/incident management process including coordination of reporting, investigation, documentation and management of accidents and incidents.
· Review accident file contents for accuracy and documents required.
· Gatekeeper for accident preventable decisions
· Assure proper accountability is delivered for preventable accidents. Assure proper accountability is delivered for preventable accidents.
· Provide a comprehensive & accurate monthly report containing appropriate metrics
Education:
· Preferred:
o Bachelor’s Degree or five (5) years equivalent professional experience
o Designated Employer’s Representative Certificate
Language Skills:
· Required:
o Ability to speak and write proper detailed content.
Technical Experience:
· Required:
o Transit operations, safety, and compliance.
o Knowledge of DOT FTA regulations and requirements
o Strong communication and organizational skills
Must be highly versed in safety management software such as SAMSARA*
