SUMMARY: Manages work activities of housekeeping associates to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive guestrooms and facilities. Assigns duties, inspects work, and investigates complaints regarding housekeeping service or equipment and takes corrective action. May purchase housekeeping supplies and equipment, take periodic inventories, screen applicants, train new employees, and recommend dismissals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Manage housekeeping staff and coordinate work activities among department. Expectation: Housekeeping activities are efficient and cost effective.
- Adhere to all company hiring procedures and guidelines. Expectation: Guidelines for hiring are met by all.
- Ensure that all brand service and product standards are followed. Expectation: Hotel is in compliance with all brand standards.
- Inspect guestrooms, public areas, and grounds for cleanliness and appearance. Expectation: Guestrooms, public areas, and grounds are consistently clean, well-kept, and attractive.
- Provides direction to employees regarding operational and procedural issues. Expectation: Direction provided is clear, informative, timely, accurate, and complete.
- Assigns duties to workers and schedules shifts. Inspect work for conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness. Expectation: Assignments contribute to productivity and profitability. Schedules are completed in a timely manner. Housekeeping activities are observed, to standards, and timely.
- Observe and monitor performance to ensure adherence to company’s policies and procedures. Expectation: Employee performance consistently meets or exceeds facility policies and procedures.
- Investigate complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment, and take corrective action. Answer inquiries pertaining to housekeeping services. Responsible for resolving guests’ complaints. Expectation: All complaints or problems are resolved in a friendly, effective, thorough, accurate, and timely manner.
- To monitor on a daily basis all labor costs and other expenses using a checkbook system. Lives within operating budgets. Expectation: Expense budgets are met.
- Attends weekly Staff meetings. Expectation: Communication is ongoing and effective.
- Responsible for conducting all monthly inventories and ensuring that they are accurate. Expectation: Expenses are accurately recorded in the appropriate period.
- Evaluate PMS reports to forecast department personnel requirements. Prepare reports for payroll, productivity and departmental expenses. Manages housekeeping operations to maximize resources to achieve productivity and profitability. Expectation: Operations are efficient, timely, and accurate.
- Promptly informs immediate supervisor of all pressing issues and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action. Expectation: Communications are timely, accurate, productive, and complete.
- Ensures a safe working and dining environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents. Expectation: Consistently maintains a safe environment in an accurate and timely manner.
- Completes accident reports promptly in the event a customer or employee is injured. Expectation: Reports are timely, accurate, and complete.
- Ensures that all employees adhere to the company’s uniform standards. Expectation: All employees consistently adhere to dress code or uniform standards.
- Maintains a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment in order to facilitate positive employee morale, productivity, and continued improvement. Expectation: Morale and productivity are high.
- Communicates clearly and directly with employees concerning performance expectations, productivity, and accountability. Expectation: Communication is ongoing, clear, concise, and complete.
- Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, processes, efficiency, and service to both internal and external customers. Expectation: Methods and processes are effective and timely.
- Develops employees for future advancement when possible. Expectation: Employee development is accessible to department employees.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the housekeeping staff.
- Manages 2-4 subordinates’ supervisors, who supervise a total of 15-35 employees in the housekeeping, public space and laundry areas.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four year college or university; or five years related supervisory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing personalized customer service including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general hotel PMS and operational reports, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers, and the public.
- Second language skills may be required according to available workforce.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Experience with Opera PMS
- Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Maintains a valid Drivers License.
