ABOUT OUR TEAM
The Information Technology Department at Denver Public Library consists of 4 teams: IT Administration, DevOps, Project Management Office, and the Service Desk. This position reports directly to the Senior IT Manager as part of IT Administration. DPL’s IT team members are high performing, technically competent, and passionate technology evangelists, right at the center of all the action. Our staff maintain knowledge of technology trends, best practices and industry standards. They are skilled in creative problem solving, adaptive thinking and making connections; and are experienced in bringing projects to a timely completion.
ABOUT THE POSITION
As Technical Communication Specialist, you will develop comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards. You will be part of our work building and maintaining world-class digital services for a world-class city through a deep understanding of IT’s products and services; and by translating complex information into simple, polished, engaging content. Working side by side with members of the IT department and our customers, you'll be responsible for the department’s documentation strategy and helping to communicate both internally and externally across the organization.
You can expect to be:
Developing or coordinating audit responses, policy documentation, project updates, Requests for Proposals, annual reports, technology plans, business cases, memos, internal communications, and other media for consumption by technical and non-technical end users.
Designing, gathering content, authoring, and maintaining release notes, user manuals, software installation guides, and other documentation media for software products and online services.
Developing processes, templates, and other structures for maintaining reusable (i.e., "single-sourcing") documentation and help materials.

You are a great communicator and focused on de-mystifying complex information. Someone who can see it, get it, and communicate it well. Sound judgment and a keen eye for details.
Successful candidates must be detail-oriented, able to work with limited supervision, and willing to take ultimate responsibility for the quality of the IT Department’s documentation.
A successful candidate will have:
A demonstrated proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets) and/or Microsoft Office, diagramming software, screen capture tools, and other multimedia content creation tools.

Bachelor’s degree in technical writing, journalism, communications, information systems, a related field, or equivalent education and work experience.
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education or certifications may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.
While occasional evening and weekend work can be required for periodic off-hours maintenance, the Denver Public Library IT team values work/life balance and offers flexibility in scheduling, telework, and shared responsibility for after-hours support. You will have your holidays and weekends back! The schedule will be determined by the needs of a department that encourages a healthy work-life balance and will rarely ask for hours to be worked outside a normal workday.
