Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Surgery Scheduler to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a healthcare setting and possess strong organizational and communication skills. This role involves coordinating surgical schedules, ensuring accurate and efficient scheduling of procedures, and providing exceptional service to patients and healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule surgeries and procedures for patients with accuracy and efficiency.
- Coordinate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to schedule surgeries based on availability and patient needs.
- Obtain necessary patient information and medical records for scheduling purposes.
- Communicate with patients to provide pre-operative instructions, answer any questions, and address concerns.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date scheduling records in the electronic medical record system (eCW).
- Conduct physician pre-certification to ensure coverage for appointments and medical care.
- Ensure all required tests needed prior to surgery are completed and that necessary equipment is ordered.
- Arrange room availability, pre-surgery medication, and other necessary preparations prior to scheduled procedures.
- Schedule follow-up appointments as needed.
- Collaborate with front desk and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient scheduling processes.
- Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in medical office administration is a plus.
- Previous experience as a surgery scheduler or in a similar role is required.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems (eCW) is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing complex surgery schedules.
- Knowledge of insurance verification processes and pre-authorization requirements.
