Athenix is seeking a professional, experienced RN Nurse Manager.
The RN Nurse Manager promotes and maintains patients’ health and safety by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of the patient care area; directing and developing staff; collaborating with physicians and multi-disciplinary professional staff; providing physical and psychological support for patients, families and caregivers.
Job Overview
The Nurse Manager will work closely and partner with the Physician, Practice Manager and Director of Nursing in the performance and delegation of nursing duties to provide the best nursing care possible to the surgical patients. In addition to assisting with the care of surgical patients, the Nurse Manager will be responsible for supervising the provision of quality nursing care given at Athenix. He/she will be responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice, coordinating nursing and training programs, and recognizing and assisting in solving problems within established policies and practices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the following:
- Accomplishes nursing human resources by selecting, training, scheduling, coaching and counseling clinical staff. Communicates job expectations and monitors contributions.
- Achieves organization goals by accepting ownership for completing new requests and exploring opportunities to add value to the organization.
- Contributes information to staff meetings and reviews progress, resolves problems and identifies system improvements.
- Monitors expenditures and develops ways to effectively reduce costs with surgical supplies.
- Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, caregivers, and staff members.
- Promotes patients’ comfort and independence by working with physicians to develop detailed pre-operative and post-operative care instructions tailored to specific surgical procedures.
- Oversees ordering of all surgical, nursing, and anesthesia supplies and medications. Maintains an orderly environment and documents expired items as needed. Maintains inventory by studying usage, identifying trends, and anticipating needs.
- Reviews and ensures contents of emergency carts are at an acceptable level, restocking and reordering as needed. Documents Crash Cart, Malignant Hyperthermia, and medication logs accurately and appropriately.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation of the Expired Medication, Implant and Specimen logs. Ensures applicable policies are followed.
- Responsible for the accuracy of the surgical log and all daily, weekly and monthly clinic logs.
- Utilizes Learning Management system and oversees all clinical staff personnel records including clinical competencies, vaccination status, licenses, trainings and certifications, and other applicable items for their position.
- Performs routine Narcotic Control counts and orders narcotic medications as needed.
- Routinely monitors OR and PACU equipment to insure proper function and upkeep. Troubleshoots malfunctions and calls for repairs as needed.
- Participates in circulating in the OR and PACU as needed.
- Participates in pre-operative and post-operative teaching and exams as needed. Triages patient phone calls and questions. Conducts post-op follow-ups: assessments, dressings, removes drains and sutures, interventions, education, and updates physician on patient status as needed.
- Reviews upcoming surgery charts for adequate labs, tests, clearances, and orders to ensure the patient is ready for surgery.
- Schedules clinical staff according to employee availability, surgery schedule, and needs of the clinic.
- Coordinates with Surgery Coordinator and Practice Manager regarding scheduling of cases, patient invoices, changes to procedures, and estimated surgical times.
- Conducts Governing Body Meetings in conjunction with other members of the Governing Body.
- In conjunction with the Practice Manager, oversees all credentialing and privileging for the facility’s providers.
- Responsible for incident reports, infection tracking, provider performance evaluation, unanticipated events, and root cause analysis reports.
- Leads emergency drills per accreditation requirements and maintains all required safety plans.
- Ensures OSHA safety regulations and reporting compliance.
- Develops meaningful quality improvement studies to identify areas that could be enhanced.
- Ensures the facility adheres to all clinical accreditation standards and applicable state regulations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a BSN degree or equivalent experience and current state RN licensure.
- Must have and maintain at all times a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS).
- Circulating Operating Room and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience required.
- Supervisory experience in a team leader role.
- Familiar with all of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all members of staff both verbal and written.
- Good judgment, supervision, listening, creativity, conflict resolution and leadership skills.
- Must be able to take initiative and provide critical thinking skills to address clinical issues.
- Ability to promote good public relations with patients and caregivers.
