Water and Wastewater Operator Trainee
This is an entry level position. The operator trainee will work under the supervision of the chief operator to gain the necessary knowledge to operate, monitor, maintain and trouble-shoot the wastewater treatment facility and the water distribution system.
Full-time employment based upon a normal 40-hour work week. Overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 hours per week at the rate of 1.5 x regular hourly pay. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with rotating weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Laboratory tests on water and wastewater samples
· Plant clean-up
· Sewage Pump Station checks
· Water meter readings
· PA One-calls
· Water and sewer line locating
· Read water interconnect meters
· Perform routine equipment maintenance
· Sewer collection system repairs
· Water distribution system repairs
· Data entry
· Emergency call-outs
Work Requirements:
· Obtain the knowledge and skills to perform and document various laboratory tests required by State and Federal agencies for the operation of the wastewater treatment plant and water distribution system.
· Obtain the knowledge and skills to perform daily monitoring of the wastewater treatment process.
· Obtain the working knowledge of the operation, methods and procedures of a wastewater treatment plant and water distribution system.
· Obtain the working knowledge of the machinery used for wastewater treatment and sewage pumping stations.
· Obtain the working knowledge of the instruments used in the water distribution system.
· Obtain the basic knowledge of State and Federal regulations governing wastewater discharges and water distribution system.
· Within three years obtain the required water and wastewater operator licenses issued by Pennsylvania DEP.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma
· Mechanically inclined
· Attention to detail and Multitasking
· Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s license (CDL Class B a plus)
· Communicate clearly
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described below are representative of those required for the position.
