PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under direct supervision, provides accurate, person-centered, and culturally appropriate interpretation to patients, their families, guests, and the health care team throughout the hospital. Translates and/or interprets forms and documents as requested. Provides interpreter services in-person, virtually, or over the phone. The interpreter will work closely with the Language Access Coordinator on improving delivery of interpreter services as part of the Care Experience model and in accordance with our ICARE values.
REPORTS TO: The Assistant Director/Language Access Coordinator - Kings County Hospital

All service lines, and non-clinical locations.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provision of Language Services

Provides interpretation as requested in accordance with hospital policy as well as the interpreter Confidentiality Agreement and Code of Ethics.

Ensure appropriate documentation of interpretation activities in patient medical records and/or departmental log or other systems as indicated.

Maintain records of interpretation sessions provided in departmental log or other system as indicated.

Perform interpreting for patient outreach, seminars, focus groups, and other meetings.

Maintain and update knowledge of applicable policies and procedures to effectively converse with providers and communicate information to patients.

Collaborate/Assist in translation of written materials.
Support of Department Operations

Assist with deployment, maintenance, and tracking of departmental equipment.

Explain available language services when working with hospital staff.

Participate in professional development and educational activities.

Attend all assigned meetings and in-services.

Foster collaborative relationships with other professionals in and outside assigned areas.

Other related activities as required for daily operations of the department.
Client Navigating
-
Communicate with patients and visitors in accordance with our ICARE values.

Assist patients and visitors with wayfinding and other needed information to navigate the campus.

Identify and address patient and visitor concerns over the phone or in person, in collaboration with the appropriate personnel. Report patient and visitor concerns to supervisor and to the appropriate department when they are not immediately resolved.

Distribute informational materials.
