K-2 Lower Elementary Teacher
Position Objectives:
New Horizon School, an independent accredited school in the San Gabriel Valley, is seeking a full-time lower elementary teacher. As a school, we are committed to providing students with an excellent academic education with a firm grounding in moral and ethical values. Founded as a preschool in 1984, the school has expanded into a preschool through eighth grade program. The elementary teacher plays a key role in furthering the mission of New Horizon School, a United States Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Implement the school’s educational program which is aligned with the goals and objectives of the school’s mission and follows Common Core and State educational standards
2. Create and support a dynamic classroom environment incorporating active learning and research-based teaching strategies
3. Incorporates skills of collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking
4. Differentiate instruction for children in varied levels in areas such as Math and Reading/Language Arts
5. Foster students’ social-emotional development through specific programs (e.g., Responsive Classroom)
6. Conduct regular assessment of student growth using a variety of tools and products
7. Maintain regular and constructive communication with parents regarding student progress
8. Utilize organizational and instructional technological programs (e.g., Schoology, Canvas, Kahoot, Brain Pop, etc.)
9. Integrate a variety of technology hardware such as Smart Boards, iPads, Chromebooks, etc.
10. Supervise students on the playground and during arrival and dismissal
11. Participate in a collaborative and collegial faculty culture
12. Have experience teaching remotely when needed
Reporting Relationship:
The lower elementary teacher reports directly to the Director of the Lower School.
Classification: Exempt
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Credential or Master’s in related area preferred
- Experience teaching in a lower elementary setting. Strong computer and technology skills with variety of hardware (e.g., smart boards, iPads, laptops) and software (e.g., LMS platforms, Nearpod, Kahoot, Zoom, etc.)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish professional and respectful relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff
- Ability to support the school’s mission and work in a team environment
- Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant is subject to a background check.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $43,800.00 - $56,000.00 per year
