Job Summary
Pax Environmental, Inc. is seeking a part-time, on-call, hourly, SOI-qualified Archaeologist to assist with performing environmental compliance archaeological surveys, monitoring and various other professional tasks.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting archaeological inspections/monitoring/assessments/detailed reports
- Performing subsurface testing and surface surveys.
- Participating in excavation; artifact processing and analysis.
- Emergency response to wildland fire infrastructure restoration.
- Class III cultural resource inventory; Class I surveys.
- Communicating with Pax project managers, construction crews, and other field staff to complete the reporting requirements.
- Use of GPS units and aerial photographs for project navigation and collect field data.
- Taking photographs and detailed notes of site conditions.
- Understanding of project environmental requirements and associated laws protecting archaeological resources.
- Preparing high quality technical reports and documents.
- Frequent field work, often requiring overnight stays.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or related field. Masters or Ph.D. in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field desired.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant, demonstrable, progressively responsible employment in CRM.
- Experience guiding a variety of projects and interfacing with clients and personnel at varying levels will be highly valued.
- Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification strongly desired.
- Archaeological targeted survey experience.
- Intermediate-level competency in Office 365 and other computer and browser-based software.

- Must provide declaration of auto insurance (CA state-minimum required) upon hire.
- Must complete a background check.
Physical Requirements
- Required to sit or stand at an office workstation, sometimes for extended periods
- Required to work on keyboard, using mouse while looking at computer screens/monitors, sometimes for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors, walking and standing frequently for several hours and able to perform field work on uneven terrain.
- Required to work with tools.
- Be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
