YOUR ROLE:
You enjoy working outside and doing physical labor while loading and unloading freight from equipment and customer vehicles to ship to and from Alaska or Hawaii.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Counts, inspects, checks markings on inbound/outbound freight shipments for receiving and/or delivering those shipments per the requirements of the Bill of Lading.
- Interfaces with customers by giving instructions and directions and assistance on procedures for handling freight shipments, preparing Bills of Lading.
- Inspects condition of returning empty container equipment. Cleans, sweeps and separates the equipment prior to reissue to a customer.
- Lashes and unlashes containers on barge vessels using a variety of gear available.
- Picks up, sorts and maintains lashing gear.
- Lashes or unlashes vehicles to and from platforms or barges using specialized equipment.
- Loads shipments to containers and/or platforms utilizing judgment for efficiency in keeping with the nature of the freight involved.
- Secure shipments to avoid movement within or on different types of equipment using a variety of banding, dunnage, lumber, binders or chains. Ensure proper securement to prevent damage.
- Secures loose or bulky freight with banding and or chains to platforms.
- Operates up to a 6000 # forklift to receive and deliver or load palletized/unitized freight shipments. Handles loose shipments as required.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local regulations as well as company policy and safety standards.
