First Class Generator Services is seeking a qualified candidate for a position as a Generator Field Service Technician in the Houston and surrounding areas. First Class Generator Services is a privately held company with a core focus on generator service, testing and maintenance. Position Summary:
A Generator Field Service Technician for First Class Generator Services is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, performing preventive maintenance, and minor electrical and mechanical repairs on customer owned emergency generator sets and fire pump engines.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide customer service above and beyond the customer’s expectations
- Plan and coordinate with customers to schedule work
- Perform engine maintenance on generator set and fire pump engines, including oil and filter changes at Customer sites and our shop
- Perform preventive maintenance on power generation equipment
- Evaluate equipment to determine repair requirements and provide recommendations for discrepancies noted
- Perform generator load bank testing
- Analyze results of testing of equipment and provide written documentation of equipment condition to Customer
- Repair and Troubleshoot engines such as Cummins, Detroit Diesel, John Deere, MTU and Volvo
- Coordinate and Cooperate with other technicians, managers, supervisors, and sales group
- Use safe practices with operation of service truck and safety manual procedures
- Maintain parts inventory of service truck
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Education or training that qualifies the candidate through hands on experience, military training, or trade school training
Experience:
- 2 years of experience working on generator sets and generator control systems*
- Must be able to perform Load Bank Testing*
Required:
- Valid driver's license and Clean driving record
- Must pass a drug test
- Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge
- Familiar with all tools and test equipment common to the trade*
- Must be familiar with engine/generator set electrical control panel operation and transfer switch operation**
- Must be reliable, dependable, and capable of working at least 90% of the time unsupervised and without assistance**
- Must be willing to work extended hours and some weekends/ holidays**
- Pleasant attitude and be able to work well with other technicians, management, and Customers**
- Familiar with various diesel and natural gas engines including Cummins, Cat, and Detroit Diesel is a plus**
- Transfer Switch/ ATS experience a plus*

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position will involve working primarily outdoors, traveling to numerous customer locations with occasional work in the shop. The employee will encounter varying weather conditions and temperatures. Appropriate safety equipment and practices are required. The employee must possess the ability to lift 75+ pounds.
