Job Summary
The Network Telecommunications Engineer (NTE) is responsible for administering and managing the Network environments at Skagit Valley Hospital. The NTE will utilize technical leadership skills, knowledge and experience in Cisco Catalyst switches, LAN switching technology, Cisco routers, multiple routing protocols (RIP-2, BGP, EIGRP), and new Cisco LAN equipment including planning, configuring and installing them. The NTE will troubleshoot complex LAN, WAN, and Internet environments. The NTE will assist in security design, process development and improvement, new customer implementations, and be actively involved with troubleshooting in extremely diverse environments. The NTE will be required to complete assigned projects on time, which includes, but is not limited to providing analysis, design, development, implementation, testing, monitoring, maintenance, production support, and documentation. The NTE must independently identify, troubleshoot, document, and escalate complex problems to the Director.
Essential Functions
Administers and manages Cisco hardware/software to support production clients. Provides network and telephony design and configures and installs routers/switches/voice gateways/wireless infrastructure during implementations. Troubleshoots and resolves network and telephony problems using, Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express, Cisco Unity Connection, and other telecom/tools. Provides system service problem resolution for issues identified. Assists in the development, improvement, and testing of SRH’s incident response procedures. Provides solution requirements to extend monitoring tools for network and telephony devices under management. Assists in designing and implementing new technical solutions. Manages and supports the Change Control process for all change needs related to the TNE role. Coordinates and oversees the maintenance and changes to the telephony and network production environment. Develops and updates processes and procedures. Coordinates documentation efforts. Works effectively with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, identifies/resolves technical issues. Ensures that products and services meet SRH’s overall security objectives. Designs, coordinates, and implements telecommunications systems including VOIP, Nortel PBX and Mitel voice switching systems, and the voice network. Designs network cable/wiring plans and related products and services. Assesses business requirements, performs design and programming, and escalates tasks and projects as appropriate. Oversees the ongoing administration of voice technology and network systems to include telephone station hardware, software changes, voice system upgrades, and traffic analysis and reporting. Oversees vendor billing and vendor billing changes related to voice technology and maintains documentation of telecommunications circuits. Complies with all SRH policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by Manager, Director, or designee.
Education
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or related area preferred.
Experience/Training
Previous experience as Network Engineer required. Healthcare experience preferred.
License/Certifications
CCNP, or CCNA preferred.
Other Skills
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability in all aspects of PC and network installation and support in a large user environment. Knowledge of systems management, analysis skills, computer systems, testing and training. Knowledge of LAN/WAN systems integration, Novell, NT, TCP/IP, intelligent HUBS, switches, routers and network protocols/topologies. Ability to communicate technically both verbally and in writing and to work positively in a team environment and encourage/train other team members on process and functionality.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation to drive to various sites throughout the day to troubleshoot phones, headsets, faxing issues, Voice Gateways and UC Servers. NTE must be able to lift at least 50lbs. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. This position requires working in an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in the office.
