POSITION PURPOSE
Delivers excellent customer experiences through positive interactions with guests, offering knowledge of coffee and drink menu, delivering efficient service and quality food and beverage items.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Complete opening and closing duties including setting up necessary supplies and tools, cleaning all equipment and areas, locking doors, etc. Set up, stock, and maintain work areas.
- Maintains a positive and friendly demeanor with customers and colleagues, presents a welcoming environment, welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, offers education on the coffee drink menu and the To Go menu, answers questions, and delivers on customers coffee and To Go order interests and needs.
- Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as, expresso, expresso lungo, caffe latte, and cappuccino.
- Generates revenues by defining new and expanded services and products.
- Input orders into cash register system and collect payment from customer.
- Take orders, record in the POS system and prepare food and coffee beverages.
- Ensure that appliances (e.g., coffee makers) are turned on/off at the appropriate times.
- Bus coffee cart areas and tables.
- Clean dishes, utensils, work areas, tables and equipment throughout the day.
- Obtain change required for expected business level.
- Count bank at end of shift, complete designated cashier reports, resolve any discrepancies, drop off receipts, and secure bank.
- Maintains proper care up upkeep of equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; complete safety training and certifications.
- Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.
- Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
- Support all co-workers and treat them with dignity and respect.
- Support team to reach common goals. Comply with quality assurance expectations and standards.
Other:
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotels facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel:

- Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

- Ability to describe all menu items, prices and methods of preparation. And to use suggestive selling techniques to encourage the guests to choose items that are house specialties.

Physical Demands
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance and on a regular and continuing basis.
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.
- Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e. g., small print).
- Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines (e. g., to identify defects).
- Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces.
- Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps.
- Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis.

- Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
- Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
- Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
- Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10F) and kitchens (+110F), possibly for one hour or more.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education & Experience
- High school or equivalent education preferred.
- Prior experience working in a food and beverage establishment required.
- Previous Barista experience strongly preferred.
Licenses or Certificates
- Must have valid food handlers card.
Grooming
All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton standards.
Attendance:
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.
