This is a permanent, full-time position studying motor vehicle crashes in Wayne County, MI for the US Department of Transportation. Our teams of Crash Technicians are the eyes and ears of vehicle safety in the real world. In this position, you will perform complete crash investigations to document and photograph crash scenes, vehicle damage, and potential safety defects.
Paid training is provided. Previous experience in the field is not required. The best applicants must have excellent communication skills, good time management, an analytical mindset, and a genuine desire to contribute to public safety.
Responsibilities and Duties
Position requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required
- Clean and valid driver’s license
- Basic proficiency with digital cameras
- Proficiency with Windows-based computers and Microsoft Office
- Ability to pass USDOT background check for security clearance
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather
Position duties (training provided):
- Read and interpret police crash reports
- Document and photograph vehicle damage
- Document and photograph crash scenes
- Talk to injured vehicle occupants about their crash
- Perform administrative tasks (maintain files and records)
- Securely handle private documents
- Continually develop your knowledge of automobile safety
- Maintain positive relationships with hospitals, insurance companies, police, and salvage yards.
