QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey (active license).
- CPR certification (online certification not accepted).
- Licenses and CPR certification must always be current. Copies must be given to Executive Director, DON/DON Designee/Registered Nurse, Human Resources, and posted in dosing station.
- Positive and compassionate attitude towards working with patients with substance abuse disorders
- Be a team player, be part of a multidisciplinary team, and work with a diverse population
PRIMARY ROLE
- Provides nursing/health care to patients.
- Dispenses methadone to patients as per physician order.
- Maintains appropriate methadone and nursing, medical and departmental records.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dispenses methadone to patients as per physician order and in accordance with clinic policy and procedure.
- Observes and assesses patient's mental and medical health status and documents findings in accordance with clinic policy and procedure.
- Based on observation and assessment, refers patients to appropriate staff including clinic physician and counselor.
- Takes and records data.
- Completes nurse's notes and other forms, as appropriate.
- Reviews forms with patient and obtains patient signatures as required.
- Administers tests as per physician order and clinic policy.
- Refers impaired patients to appropriate staff members.
- Carries out physician's orders.
- Accurately determines and records daily methadone inventory.
- Takes medical history, completes medical assessment and performs laboratory work on new admissions (e.g. monitor UDS inside bathrooms).
- Provides health information, education and counseling concerning methadone, and infectious diseases, pregnancy, and other health issues.
- Participates in Treatment Team meetings as requested. Presents pertinent information regarding patient's mental and health status to the Treatment Team.
- Contributes to Treatment Team decisions and development of care plan.
- Performs venipuncture, as requested.
- Acts as liaison to professional community and maintains communications with jails and hospitals, as requested.
- Facilitates Medical Orientation and other program groups as assigned.
- Attends clinic staff meetings and in-service programs.
- Develops and presents in-service programs as requested and as appropriate.
- Attends professional conferences and meetings, as appropriate.
- Monitors only same gender toxicology screens in accordance with clinic policies and procedures.
- Checks emails daily, responds to, and takes action on emails sent by staff members.
- Scans documents daily to keep up with medical documentation updates for each patient.
- Signs notes daily via Methasoft digital signing.
- Does not use the cell phone for personal purposes during RBH unless on break.
- When calling out, communicates to Executive Director, DON/RN, Human Resources, and Front Desk. When taking planned time off, fills out Time Off Request Form in advance.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice for an RN in the State of New Jersey.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Act professional and maintain appropriate boundaries with peers and patients.
- Dress appropriately. Nurses are required to wear scrubs 7 days per week that is clean and presentable.
- All staff is required to use appropriate and respectful language in accordance with agency policy.
