The Village of Glendale Heights has a position available for a Maintenance Worker in the Streets Division of the Public Works Department.
This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of specialized equipment in the construction, repair, maintenance and replacement of streets, sidewalks, and storm water infrastructure. Inspects, repairs, and maintains streets, sidewalks, street signs, streetlights, and at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly. Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, etc.
Maintains a variety of Village and IEPA records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, street repairs, street signs and lights, work completed, etc. Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as snowplow and de-icing truck, street sweeper, vactor jetter/vactor truck, front end loader, and backhoe/loader. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, work safely, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
Previous experience in a Municipality Street Division is preferred. Electrical Certification, Stormwater Inspector, Nassco Certified and NIMS Certification desirable. This position requires to be on-call for emergencies out of regular work hours on a periodic basis throughout the year.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and five (5) years of experience relating to construction, infrastructure maintenance, storm water or repair or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid State Driver's license, with CDL Class-B certifications desired at time of application, or be active in the Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a training provider registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The successful candidate will be required to follow the terms and conditions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 (49 USCA 2717 et seq.) and all related Village Policies.
Salary range is $28.39 $38.33 hourly. This is a Teamsters union, non-exempt position.
