DV SERVICES AT HAYMARKET CENTER - COUNSELOR/ADVOCATE
FUNCTION: To conduct CAWC’s Domestic Violence Services Program at Haymarket Center, which is one of Illinois’ largest substance abuse treatment facilities.
FT/PT: Full-time
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Haymarket Program Services Coordinator
Responsibilities
1. Assist in screening and assessment of Haymarket clients in relation to domestic violence issues.
2. Act as domestic violence counselor and advocate for designated clients of Haymarket Center. Responsibilities include orientation to the domestic violence services program, development of client service plans, and provision of direct services.
3. Provide individual and group counseling, advocacy, information, referral, safety planning, goal development, and emotional support to victims of domestic violence on-site at Haymarket Center.
4. Facilitate DV educational groups related to the co-occurrence of substance abuse and domestic violence.
5. Coordinate with CAWC Counselor/Advocates and Haymarket staff to ensure continuity and quality of client service.
6. Attend routine meetings with Haymarket staff to ensure coordinated case management and service provision.
7. Participate in training, public education and outreach upon request.
8. Other duties assigned.
Qualifications
1. B.A. in social services (or related field) or minimum two years’ experience working with survivors and/or children, preferably in a DV shelter or walk-in program.
2. Dedication to empowerment of survivors and children, as well as a commitment to and understanding of anti-oppression and social justice work.
3. Capacity to work effectively with others of diverse ages, languages, races, ethnicities, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, mental/physical abilities, and socioeconomic status.
4. Excellent interpersonal, writing, organizing and teaching skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively.
6. Familiarity with community resources.
7. Experience with systems advocacy.
8. Working knowledge of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders – characteristics, assessment, and treatment.
9. Proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
10. Highly preferred: Bilingual/bicultural; crisis intervention experience; completion of 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training at an ICDVP-approved site.
