Job description
Optimum Fire & Security is looking to hire a Fire Alarm Inspector. This position is 100% travel. Inspections are performed at various types of federal properties across the United States. The majority of our inspections are located on the east coast. Company vehicle, per diem, and lodging is provided.
NICET II Fire Alarm Systems is required or NICET I Fire Alarm Systems with the ability to acquire NICET II within 180 days of employment.
Job responsibilities and duties are as follows:
Inspections:
- Perform inspections of fire alarm and other life safety systems in accordance with the codes and standards of each system
- Maintain testing equipment to its fully functional standards at all times
- Properly operate all testing equipment per manufacturer's instructions.
- Knowledge of NFPA codes. (NFPA 10, NFPA 72, & others)
- Use mediums provided by Optimum to fill out and submit proper inspection reports
- Report all deficiencies found during the inspection to the project manager.
Communication:
- Maintain professional lines of communication with all site managers and support teams.
- Maintain professional communication with project managers and Optimum support staff
- Communicate effectively with the project manager the needs for projects (materials such as tags, paperwork, smoke or other needed supplies)
Service:
- Perform small services on fire alarm and other life safety systems as needed
- Change or clean devices such as smoke detectors or duct detectors
- Remount devices that have become unattached to their mounting surface.
- Troubleshoot issues such as ground faults, short or open circuits
- Proficient in the use of a multimeter
Other duties:
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Maintain work vehicles in proper working order
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of fire alarm systems.
- Knowledge of building reports.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read installation and system manuals.
- Ability to read blueprints and building plans.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical and fire codes.
- Ability to use hand and power tools to install hardware.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational/technical/ school training is highly preferred; on-the-job training may be provided.
- NICET II in fire alarm systems or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Two years of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders.
- Physically able to install system hardware and wiring.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
