Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC) is a non-profit public benefit corporation and is one of the 1,100 Community Action Agencies nationwide dedicated to assisting low-income individuals and families become stable and self-sufficient. As the designated Community Action Agency for San Bernardino County, the largest county in the continental United States, CAPSBC is charged with serving over 800,000 low-income families and individuals, elderly and homeless residents of San Bernardino County each year. Food Bank Mission: To combat hunger and malnutrition by distributing food to the needy and advocating for supportive policies and legislation that will eliminate hunger. The Food Bank distributes over 15 million pounds of food each year throughout San Bernardino County, even to the most remote locations. The Food Bank is supported by more than 3,500 dedicated volunteers who help make the food available to reach needy persons.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Program Assistant I represents the food bank program to a network of 200 nonprofit organization partners, the general public, volunteers, donors, and internal staff. The Program Assistant I takes the lead role to ensure program quality and compliance is maintained by the food bank’s network of partner agencies, which includes providing an effective monitoring and evaluation system, ensuring agency partners are in compliance with required program regulations and policies, identifying and developing networking sites, and serve as a liaison between the program and the public. The incumbent may prepare or assist with grant applications and special projects and assist with the agency’s fund-raising activities. Assigned work requires the use of initiative and judgment in selecting appropriate work methods and ability to handle routine to non-routine questions. This position requires extensive and frequent travel throughout San Bernardino County and will interact with individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be passionate about our mission, driven, persuasive, customer service focused, and ready to increase food security throughout San Bernardino County. This is a temp-to-hire role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Acts as agency relations coordinator and is the primary contact for partner agency organizations and is responsible for development and ongoing implementation of all Agency Relations activities
2. Conducts program compliance monitoring with partner agencies to ensure partner agencies comply with program requirements.
3. Conducts program trainings and orientations with partner agencies in one-on-one and group settings.
4. Provides technical assistance and trainings for developing pantries and feeding programs in the areas of food safety, food storage, civil rights provisions, and record keeping procedures.
5. Assists technical training and on-site implementation of electronic client intake system.
6. Continually monitor partner agencies for growth or decline, and suggests appropriate changes to help develop and support partners
7. Develops effective collaboration among partner agencies.
8. Reviews and qualifies new program applications, perform timely on-site evaluation visits, and submits recommendations to the Program Manager.
9. Works cooperatively with the warehouse team to ensure good customer service and prompt response to requests or complaints.
10. Provides support for the development of partnerships and/or committees to assist with food drives/solicitations.
11. Conducts orientations for new distribution site volunteer coordinators and volunteers.
12. Prepares correspondence and schedules as required; compiles and calculates data to create program reports.
13. Assists in the preparation of grant applications and proposals to seek fund and food donations.
14. Plans and conducts food and fund drives with public, private and non-profit agencies.
15. Assists Program Manager in the development and preparation of proposals, budgets, and program planning as needed.
16. Participate in grant project activities as needed.
17. Plan and execute activities to benefit and serve partner agencies and the low-income community.
18. Attends meetings, conferences, seminars and travels throughout San Bernardino County as required.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. One (1) year of para-professional, technical, or administrative experience working in a Social Service program or nonprofit organization.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, twisting, and bending. Simple grasping and hand manipulation, as well as, reaching above and below shoulder level. Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires working indoors in temperature-controlled environment with some exposure to copies and printer chemicals and/or fumes. Requires working outdoors in varied environmental conditions and temperatures.
