Tax Accountant

Mid-sized privately held Oil and Gas E&P and Real Estate Enterprise is actively looking for a Tax Accountant in our Houston, TX office. Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, able to multi-task, and capable of growing with the company. This position can be full-time, part-time, or contract and is in office.
The essential job duties include, but are not to be limited to the following:
- Preparation of data for input into income tax returns for C-corporations, S-corporations, partnerships, trusts, non-profits, and individuals. Experience with complex returns for businesses and high net worth individuals is required.
· Prepare input data for multi-state returns
· Assist 3rd Party tax preparer with schedule as needed
· Prepare lead schedules for external CPA firm
· Conduct tax research and analysis of buy/sell transactions
- Prepare and review compiled and reviewed financial statements
- Tax planning and research
- Assist with IRS and state tax audits as required
- Review complex individual, corporations, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns for accuracy as prepared by CPA firm
- Record tax entries into accounting software
- Understand and apply tax reduction strategies
- Manage all property tax-related activities, timely filing of tax returns and renditions, and collaboration with appraisal districts as necessary.
- Identifies opportunities to reduce tax liability and implement tax-efficient structures and processes.
- Conduct regular reviews of the company's tax procedures and identify areas for improvement.
- Implement and maintain companies fixed asset software
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working with a public accounting firm or a public or private E&P firm, preferably with specific experience working on E&P business returns and high net worth individuals.
- CPA/ CA/ CMA designation preferred
- Experience with preparing 1120S, 1065, 1040, with schedule C, D, E, F.
- Candidate must be effective at both written and verbal communication, with the ability to pursue self-development and excel within our team approach
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook and Go system.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the engagement team.
- Works well in a demanding, fast-paced setting
