We are hiring a full-time Ward Clerk to join our Elmwood Care Center, Skilled Nursing. This individual is responsible for ensuring that resident and visitor’s needs are met in a timely and efficient manner. They assist in the exchange of information between departments to best respond to patient care needs. Ward Clerk perform a wide range of clerical duties to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow for nursing staff and other clinical roles.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a health care setting or prior work experience in a similar role
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) with clinical and non-clinical individuals
- High level of comfort with technology and the ability to successfully complete a range of clerical tasks.
- Must possess strong critical thinking skills and able to respond quickly when situations change unexpectedly
- Ability to work in a confidential manner
- Reliable and timely with work schedule
JOB SPECIFICATION:
Full-time PM Shift (2:00pm-10:30pm)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for covering the nurses’ station at all times.
- Answer telephones and direct calls to the appropriate staff.
- Respond to the call light system and pass on any important information to the nursing staff.
- Audit resident charts on a daily basis concerning vital sign and documentation.
- Pull charts as assigned by the charge nurse to have them ready for the physicians.
- Keep up to date on resident’s medical records with the primary physician.
- Maintain availability of charts for authorized personnel inspections.
- Make identification armbands for new admissions and replacements for ones that are worn out.
- Monitor supplies, charges, and billing as directed by the Medical Records Coordinator.
- Responsible for monthly audits and billings.
- Update resident phone directory.
- Assist in arranging transportation for residents to medical appointments.
- Assist in the Admission Process of the resident.
- Have readily available unassigned resident charts with the appropriate papers needed for a new admission.
- Develop and coordinate staffing schedules for all Health Center staff.
- Keep accurate documentation of illnesses and absences.
- Contact staff to attempt to replace personnel who have called in sick or are absent/
- Receive all blue slips requesting scheduling changes and coordinate the staffing pattern to meet these needs as best as possible, forward blue slips by designated deadlines to supervisor for final approval.
- Schedule all new Health Center employees for orientation.
- Uphold patient privacy at all times.
- Ensure patient safety at all times.
- Attend required in-service education programs, staff and unit meetings.
- Support and adhere to Nursing Service and Administrative policies and procedures.
Due to California State regulations, we are required to have all our applicants pass a Background Check, Physical, and TB test.
