Electrical Design Draftsman
Job Description:
Industry Standard Electric, Inc. is seeking a Draftsman to support our Electrical and Panel Shop. A Draftsman is responsible for performing all aspects for complete design of complex electrical and instrumentational assignments using knowledge, practical design methods, and AutoCAD. These drawings are an essential tool for our project team, so they must be detailed, complete with building schedules, foundation plans, and materials. A Draftsman will be occasionally required to collaborate with engineers and architects of the project, adjusting the plan based on their notes or recommendations. A Draftsman will have a bachelor’s degree in drafting or engineering and is comfortable using computer-aided design software to communicate precise building information.

General Expectations
· Familiar with utilizing department design and drafting standards.
· Able to recognize and communicate project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project team.
· Produces installation details, motor control central single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, control panel layouts and grounding, lighting, power and instrumentation plans under minimal supervision.
· Recognizes and communicates scope and design changes promptly.
· On-site assistance during startup.
· Produces 480VAC equipment specifications with engineering review and approval.
· Produces 15kV/5kV equipment specifications with engineering review and approval.
· Produces electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval.
· Has complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform design functions.
Qualifications and Skills
· Associate or bachelor’s degree in drafting, engineering, or a relevant field.
· Experience with AutoCAD software (2-3 years minimum).
· Experience in a UL508A Panel Shop environment.
· Familiar with the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
· Able to perform lighting level calculations.
· Able to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.
· Able to perform voltage drop calculations.
· Able to route conduit and cable tray.
· Able to calculate tray and conduit fill.
· Able to determine motor control center loading.
· Familiar with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
· Able to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information requirements to produce all electrical deliverables.
· Able to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
· Able to determine load center unit substation loading.
· Able to develop equipment specifications for 140VAC equipment such as, motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations, etc. with engineering review and approval.
· Familiar with 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques both above and below ground.
· Able to develop equipment specifications for 15kV/5kV equipment such as, switchgear, load break switches, motor control centers, etc. and capable of performing calculations for required short circuit and over current protective device ratings with engineering review and approval.
· Able to develop electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval.
· Able to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger protect.
· Has knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
· Is proficient in the use of 2D AutoCAD, and 3D AutoCAD.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
